LINER NOTES

About James Horner
Living in England for most of his adolescene, Horner attended the prestigious Royal College of Music in London before returning to his native California to enroll in U.S.C. Upon receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in composition, he transferred to UCLA, where he received his Master's and began teaching music theory while working towards his Doctorate. A chance call from the American Film Institute led to Horner's first assignment scoring music for film, an AFI production called THE DROUGHT. He went on to do another six or seven films for AFI then left the academic world to pursue film scoring exclusively.

In rapid succession, Horner completed the scores for THE LADY IN RED, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP and BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS. Soon afterward, he went on to score the enormously successful films STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN and STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK. Since then, his definitive style has been noted in other major films such as ALIENS, WILLOW, COCOON I and II, THE LAND BEFORE TIME and HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS. His current works include FIELD OF DREAMS, for which he received an Academy Award nomination and two Grammy nominations, GLORY, a Golden globe nominee, ANOTHER 48 HRS., AN AMERICAN TAIL parts 1 and II, I LOVE YOU TO DEATH and CLASS ACTION.
